More Daft Punk and Justice...

So i know you might think I'm obsessed with the French electronic scene right now, and you are correct. Since I always end up having to give my friends these great live sets I find, this blog is here to replace that slow/last century style of sharing music.

This just in (from Product Shop NYC): Daft Punk have said they will be retiring their "Alive" stage show at the end of this year. On November 20th, they'll release Daft Punk Alive, their first official live album in the U.S. On December 4th, they'll release an expanded version of Alive. The Robot Rockers are rumored to be planning a massive spring/summer U.S. tour with a completely new stage and lighting show.........

For your listening pleasure:

Daft Punk @ Vegoose 10/27/07 (great quality - wish i was there)

Justice @ Electric Proms 10/25/07 (radio broadcast - great quality too)

BIG UPS to my favorite live music blog - Music-hole! This guy keeps posting the best stuff i've ever seen.

Neil

It seems like years ago my sister let me borrow Harvest Moon (it was). Anyway, that album and the classic Harvest would go on to be two of my favorite Neil Young albums when I was younger. I've been lucky enough to see Neil perform at the first reunion show of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young back at 1999(??) at The Palace in Detroit, at MSG with the Band of Horses, and at his annual (actually happening this upcoming weekend!) Bridge School Benefit at Shoreline Amphitheater (with Paul McCartney!, Eddie Vedder, Sonic Youth and many more.).

Needless to say, when I heard he was doing his first acoustic theater tour since 1996 this late fall I was VERY excited. I scored a pair to one of the United Palace shows and today saw a setlist and downloaded a show from Monday of this week in Portland. Show looks great - 11 acoustic songs to open with Neil only and then another 11 song electric song with a stripped down band.

Although much has been made about how expensive the better seats are on this tour, I can't stress enough how MUCH it is worth seeing Neil. His songs are all classics and his lyrics are some of the best ever written. It is not surprising to know that both Thom Yorke and Eddie Vedder have been influenced by this wonderful musician. Hearing Radiohead (and Thom especially) do the intro to After the Goldrush before playing Everything In Its Right Place (cough cough, great song;) still gives me chills to this day.

Below, you can download Neil performing "After The Gold Rush" this past Monday and Thom Yorke covering the same song at the Bridge School Benefit a few years ago. (once i figure out how to post mp3s, I will add, sorry!)

Enjoy...

JUSTICE BRING THE HEAT TO NYC!

After what seemed like weeks of anticipation, Justice's first show in New York at Terminal 5 occured last night to a sold out crowd. Words can't really do justice (no pun intended) to how high energy and GREAT their mainly Cross filled set was. I was extremely happy to finally see a NY audience that was not afraid to dance and get their hands in the air. They are playing again on Monday at Terminal 5 in case you missed what in my mind was an epic show. Tickets are still available.

As great as their show was, my jaw dropped when I heard the excellent news from Jaime (through his friend) that Justice would be DJing over at Studio B after their Terminal 5 show! Several friends headed over to Studio B with me and we arrived around 2 am to a pretty packed club that was already filled with some sweaty kids dancing hard to Erol Alkan. I have to give props to Erol as i was thoroughly impressed with his set and have already downloaded some free podcasts he has on iTunes.

Then, at 3am, Xavier de Rosnay hit the decks using the theme song from 2001 as his launch pad for what would be an incredible 80 minute DJ set that had me busting out moves I didn't even know I had on the dance floor. There were parts of songs played by Justice, Daft Punk, and several classic disco songs during the set and all the beats were very good. Leaving the club at 4:20am to finally go home, I felt exhausted yet ecstatic at what a truly legendary night for dance music I had just been a part of. Dance music is back and is going to take over in 2008.

Below, I have a link to live Justice DJ sets.

Enjoy...
